Does it hurt you to give a compliment?
Half of you who read that question can’t relate and the other half are totally sympathizing.
There were several years in my life when it felt awkward, enough to hurt, to give a compliment to someone. It was an act of discipline to say something pointed and complimentary. I sounded robotic because I felt awkward which only made the awkwardness scale.
Looking back now it seems odd I would struggle so much, but I’m glad I pushed myself through the awkwardness to come to a place where I comfortable share my thoughts and feelings with others.
If you find yourself feeling awkward to give a compliment – I understand. Keep pushing through. It’s important.
If you are on the other side of the spectrum and find it easy to tell everyone what’s great about themselves – be patient with others.
