I recently posted a job offer with very simple instructions on how to apply. As in, one sentence.
2 out of the first 6 submitted the application correctly. Too bad for the other 4 candidates. They took themselves out of the running because they couldn’t follow simple instructions.
Let’s assume that anyone taking time to give clear instructions for a task has a purpose in giving those instructions.
Learn when to lead and when to follow.
Amy,
I love your posts. .. As they always raise interesting issues and questions for me.
One, is whether or not your instructions resulted or accomplished your objectives to find the
best possible candidate? Is there any chance that the candidates that did not “follow” the
instructions is actually the superior candidate?
