Strawberry Crest

I passed a high school named “Strawberry Crest” the other day. Real place, real building. Magical name, eh?

And the halls are filled with broken pencils, broken hearts and broken dreams the same as any other school.

Nothing is perfect. Nothing is without struggle. We can package up the outside; wear heels, have a perfect hair cut, wear an amazing shirt, have a great landing page or catchy URL…there’s still junk on the inside. Still tough, rough and ugly.

I don’t know what this does for you, but it makes me want to smile at everyone a little more and give some extra love to everyone I meet.

We don’t know which battle they came from and what war they’re headed for.

1:28 fix

I burned my finger badly last Sunday. For the first time in my life, I gave my finger ample ice time…until the ice cube melted.

Within two days my finger looked completely fine – and no blister!

We all know to put ice on a burn, but the 1:28 we donate to the cause isn’t even a hello to the healing.

How often do we know the full solution and insist on a 1:28 fix?

Mangled (c)hearts

I was pushing my shopping cart to one of the cart racks in the parking lot and looked up to find myself following a woman with the same intentions. Or not. She had a big cart, I had a small one. The cart rack we were aiming for had a row of shorties and a row of big carts. Maybe it’s just my way of looking at the world, but it seems that you would try to make things fit; big cart tucked into big cart, shorty cart tucked into a shorty cart. Instead, this woman pushed her big cart into the shorty line, leaving a boggled mess of carts when I approached the scene of the accident.

We tend to think people are on the same wave length as we are. Most aren’t. For all I know, she could have just received a pink slip from work, or got a call that her sister in Ohio died. I heard a woman in church say, “there’s a broken heart in every pew.” There’s a broken heart in every parking lot, grocery store, bank, and mall. This broken heart is walking by me. I hope I take the time to look in their eyes and offer a smile.
