That moment when… (Part B)

When we realize we’re supported.

When we realize we’re loved.

When we realize we’re free.

When we realize we’re winning.

When we realize we’re competent at the task at hand.

When we realize we’re experts in our field.

What happens in that moment for you?

What should happen in that moment?

The moment of surrender.

Yes, the one you keep hiding from.

The moment of surrender is not when life is over. It’s when it begins.

Usually we’re far too concerned with control or appearance that we ignore this opportunity to surrender, to sit, to REALLY think, to realize, to acknowledge, as if victory only comes through speed, determination and perseverance.

When is that moment – the pinnacle of your existence?

I recently read a blog post from Steven Pressfield. In it he talks about a story telling legend. Hollywood wants to make a movie of this legend and he agrees by saying, ‘Okay, you can use me in the movie. But just promise me one thing. Promise me that you’ll give me one redeeming moment. Just one.’

Whitney Houston sang about a moment in time at the Grammy’s.

A redeeming moment – when the world is endeared to us. One moment in time – the pinnacle of our existence.

We’re each given a moment in time that’s the pinnacle of our existence – the highest of highs. Use whatever method of measurement you prefer.

When will that moment be for you? For me?

If you haven’t had it, will you know the moment while it’s happening?

And possibly the most important question of all, are you ready for that moment?

Where is your happy?

Don’t wait for happy. Find happy.

My happy right now is listening to the rain fall on the trees surrounding my house. The rain makes this sound because of its collision with something – leaves, trees, pavement, the roof. The rain sounds different in North Dakota than it does in New Orleans than it does in Upstate New York…all because of trees.

Where are you finding happy right now?

Life is made up of moments. Like this one.

Have the moment

Have the moment.

For those of us always heading to the next moment and project, have the moment. Appreciate what’s here, NOW. It’s not a sacrifice of the future to notice the present.

Have the moment and celebrate the victory. Have the moment and hold your love close. Have the moment and look at your baby’s face. Have the moment and hear the music. Have the moment and cry for deep loss. Have the moment and celebrate a friend’s courage.

Who wants to spend a life chasing and running away from the same moments?

Have the moment.

With incredible admiration, thank you Jeff and Josh for inspiring this post.

Are you honoring that from your past?

There are some heightened moments of clarity as we think about our past. Moments we decided we WOULD do this, we WOULDN’T do that, we would BE like this, we would DO this, we would stay away from someone or something, we would handle our money like so and so, we would never hurt anyone how we were hurt, we would raise our children like…you get the picture. These are moments when ideas and philosophies were anchored to our very being.

So today, on this day of remembrance, what heightened moments of clarity did you have along your journey? Are you honoring them in your lifestyle today?

Bottled moments

The older I get, the more I appreciate rare and precious moments, worthy of being bottled and kept forever…the ones we refer back to as monumental; moments of change, decision, high emotion or abundant love. You’re probably thinking of one right now.

While experiencing some of these treasured moments this weekend, I realize how we patiently wait and anticipate bottled moments, rather than creating them for ourselves. They’re so wonderful, yet we rarely decide to be the author. Now that we grasp our ability to create such lovely slices in time, what will we craft first?

May you learn what’s at the core of moments which move you most…

Favorite Tree

Autumn in New York is beautiful.

I pick a favorite tree every day. The colors are brilliant this time of year so I pick a bright one as my favorite; orange, yellow, gold, red, and many shades in between.

It’s easy to let the negative creep in and dwell on all the trees that have already lost their leaves, rather than focus on the ones still vibrant and glowing with color.

There are always ugly, barren trees in our life, and there are always beautiful ones.

Focus on the negative and you’ll see more of it.

Focus on great, beautiful and brilliant things and you will see more of it.

Pick a favorite tree/favorite moment every day and your life will be much richer for it.
